Race 8 No.14 Awash
This lightly raced and consistent Ciaron Maher trained Merchant Navy 4yo gelding is building a nice racing record. He has now had 12 starts for 3 wins, 4 2nds and 1 third. In his last start at this track over 1500m he sat third in the run and finished powerfully to just get nosed out on the line. The start prior at Cranbourne over 1600m he box seated before hitting the front on the home turn only to get run down in the last 50 metres of the race. Having his fourth run in today he looks primed to win and Ryan Houston’s handy claim of 3kgs brings Awash in under the minimum. He looks the bet of the day.

Race 6 No.12 Awapuni Princess
This 6yo mare trained by Gavin Bedggood is racing in good from and only just missed out last start at this course and distance. In that run Awapuni Princess didn’t look overly comfortable in the run but rounding the home turn got up on the inside of runners to join the leader and she fought on well to only go down by 1.25 lengths. Jaylah Kennedy takes the ride again today and from barrier 9 will be looking for some cover in the run before unleashing the mare in the straight. At around the $10 mark in early markets she is the value bet for the day.
